Entry Deadline: All entries are due to the Main Office at
CVES on Wednesday, October 5, 2011.

Grade Divisions: Primary – Kindergarten through 2nd Grade
Intermediate- Grades
3 through 5
Official Entry Form: the Official Entry Form must accompany
each entry. Each entry must be the work of one student. It must be complete and
signed by both the student and parent. Entry Forms will be posted on the Canyon
Vista PTA Website as soon as they become available.
Entry Size and Submission Requirements: Please familiarize
yourself with the rules for each category every year as there may be
updates. Please make sure all entries meet the requirement for each category and
division. A brief summary for each category is listed on the next page. Refer to
the official entries rules, which will be posted immediately after the
information is made public nationally.
Judging: All entries are judged on Artistic merit, creativity
and interpretation of the theme. All Canyon Vista students receive a
participation award for each entry.
Entry Presentation
and Submission Requirements
Literature:
Entries must not exceed 2,000 words and can be submitted on any kind of paper,
not to exceed 8 ½ x11 inches in size. Please submit the original and one copy in
a manila file folder with the Official Entry form stapled to the back of the
folder.
Musical Composition:
Entries may not exceed five minutes. Students in the Middle/Junior and Senior
age categories must include notation. Score size should be no larger than 11x14
inches. Band and orchestra scores may be 11 x 16 inches because they include
more than one instrument. All grade divisions must submit 2 CD recordings in a
plastic or cardboard container clearly labeled with the student’s name, grade
division, school, state and year. Pack the CDs with the score (if required) in a
clasp envelope with the Official entry form secured to the front with masking
tape. You may also use a page protector.
Photography:
A single print or collage may not exceed 11x14 inches including a mat. Mount all
prints on a cardboard mat, poster board or some other sturdy material.
Protecting the work with shrink-wrap or transparent plastic cover is
recommended. Framed entries, original film (negatives or transparencies), and
multidimensional pieces are not accepted. Place the Official Entry Form in a
sheet protector and tape it to the back of the photograph with masking tape on
top of the protective covering.
Visual Arts:
Entries must be an original print, drawing, painting, collage, photographic
collage, metal etching or punch work, fiber work or computer- generated artwork
that relates to the theme. All artwork must be flat and may not be more than 3/8
inch thick, including any framing. Nothing three dimensional (beans, noodles,
beads boxes, etc.) may extend off the surface of a work. No artwork may exceed
24 inches by 30 including a mat. Mount all paper or canvas entries on
sturdy cardboard mats, but not in wooden, metal, plastic or glass frames. You
may use a transparent protective covering to protect the art. Place the Official
Entry form in a sheet protector to the back of the artwork on top of any
protective covering.
Dance Choreography:
Entries must be original choreographed dance composition works recorded on a CD
or DVD. Entries may not exceed 3 minutes. Check the rules page for formatting
choices. There may be up to three dancers performing. The choreographer may be
the performer, but does not have to be. If costumes are used, the choreographer
must also create or design the costumes. The costumes are not included in the
judging, the entry should be judged on how well the student uses his or her
artistic vision to portray the theme. The title, composer and performer of any
background music must be credited and documented on the Official Entry Form. All
grade divisions must submit the entry in a plastic or cardboard container
clearly labeled with the
Film/Video production Rules:
Entries must be original works of fiction or nonfiction relating to theme. The
entries may be with or without sound. The student submitting the entry must be
the director, screenwriter and cameraperson. If using a computer the student
must do all the work. There are four categories: Animation, Narrative,
Documentary, Experimental and Media Presentations using Computers. The title,
composer and performer of any background music must be credited and documented
on the Official Entry form. Entries may not exceed 5 minutes and two (2) copies
must be submitted for judging. Check the rules page for formatting choices.
Place the entry in a plastic or cardboard container with the disc and container
clearly labeled with the student’s name, grade division, school, state and
year. Pack the DVD or CD in a clasp envelope (no folders please) with
the Official Entry form secured to the front with masking tape. You may also use
a page protector that is taped closed.
